ASIAN GAELIC GAMES - SINGAPORE JUNE '07

Shenzhen may not have brought any silverware back to our sun kissed tropical shores this year but we certainly made it difficult for those who did. Shenzhen¡¯s mens B team, who¡¯s consistency knows no bounds, again delivered results game in game out ¨C you could set your watch by these guys! Both ladies and men¡¯s teams battled their way through the stifling Saturday heat like Trojan warriors on a god sent mission. Like David and Goliath we locked horns and dispatched of seeded opposition to place ourselves in contention, quarter finals and glory awaited us on Sunday. Sunday came and went and our somewhat unfounded ideals of glory dissolved into a bottle of Bacardi 501.

Throughout the week-end Shenzhen had one endless source of inspiration, she shed blood (not all hers, they wont get in her way next year!) and tears, broke down barriers of pain and exhaustion to ensure Shenzhen¡¯s success and demolition of all opposition. On Sunday night she arose with mild concussion, missing her front teeth and a pulled hamstring to claim ¡°Ladies Player of the Tournament:¡±, Little Lou we salute you!

SEAN AND LINS WEDDING - TAIYUAN AUG '07

Much to the dismay of the young ladies of China and beyond, Sean Og O Chiang is officially off the market. On August 5th 2007 our little man of the Asian persuasion married cheerleader-in-chief Ms. Guo Lin.

With much of the troup arriving well in advance of the events, many of the celts spent the first two nights of the weekend getting to know the locals¡. In particular the barstaff and security of the local techno-thumping watering hole.

The day of the wedding finally came and the immaculately attired Celts gathered to watch their ¡®Schlong from Hong Kong¡¯ head up the aisle, flanked by a balding himalayan yeti and his blonde she-yeti, both wearing tuxedos strangely enough.

As lunch was served and the beer slowly began to chill, the traditional toasts did the round and the party started to gain momentum. The local guests noticing what a most delightful and friendly group of foreign friends they had in their midst, decided to indulge us in their bai-jiu drinking ways¡. And as always, the celts were happy to oblige.

As the celebrations continued and the music played louder, the SZ entourage quickly decsended upon the dancefloor. Led largely by a semi-clothed Devastatin¡¯ Dave MacK, the afternoon quickly deteriorated into our trademark ass-shaking, hip-swinging sweatfest, expediting the departure of any remaining guests.

The pool party followed, a very sophisticated and dignified affair. At this point the details of the evening become a little hazy due to the author¡¯s advanced state inebriation¡¡

A huge GONG XI from SZ Celts to Sean Og and Lin on their marriage, and an even bigger apology for our performance at the wedding!!

ChengDu - Aug 06;

Back-ally hotels, intense alcoholism, KTV, cop shops, dancing on lorries, passing out, male on male lap dances and Limerick lassies lashin¡¯ out the love!...a few things off the top of my head that partially sum up our week end on tour.

So we arrived in ChengDu to a hotel that didn¡¯t exist and a deposit that had been back-handed to a delightfully tacky back street hotel, (Under Pete¡¯s regime this could never have occurred, things change so fast) none the less we dropped our bags and started the week ends real sport at the Shamrock bar

After numerous trips to Shenzhen airport Ronan realizes he needs his passport and follows us on a few hours delayed, in the meantime Donald is in ball order with golden locks flailing in every which direction creating a sweaty ginger goddess type appearance. He played a blinder all week-end and even made an appearance on the pitch. Saturday¡¯s football was great¡¡¯nuff said. We all got legless on Saturday sang our hearts out in KTV, Pete smooched and slick his way around the clubs, Sonia & Nubia as per usual ended up in the cop shop while some of us snoozed on various pieces of vacant floor available in the local clubs and KTV. On Sunday Niamh thinks she saw some Panda¡¯s, but unfortunately just as with the Great Wall¡she can¡¯t quite remember.

All in all a great week-end and great craic with the Shanghai crew, who as ourselves are now concentrating on ¡°FITNESS¡± for the upcoming games!!
